Anyone of us have at one time or other found the world hard to bear. Stress, Responsibilities, Depression are some of the diseases of modern times that leaves us yearning for a solution. More and more people are turning to meditation as they fail to find the answer to worldly path.

Meditation is the integral to the eight-fold path to enlightenment. One trains one's mind to realise the 4 supreme truths that forms the core of Buddha's teachings: The Truth of Suffering, The Cause of Suffering, The Cessation of Suffering and the Path Leading to the Cessation of Suffering. Meditation is a valuable training that can be applied in your daily life, for it helps with concentration and when practice properly can lead to a state of peace and calmness that's beyond worldly joys. The famous word from the Buddha: EHIPASSIKO (come and see). Words can not be described unless you experience it yourself.

During the Opening Ceremony of the Meditation Centre, offering of 10,800 lights of Wisdom or Mame Monlam in Tibetan will be done mindfully to Aspire for the following:

  • Unlimited Wisdom, Concentration and Samadhi of All the Buddhas

  • To the Triple Gems-The Buddha, Dharma and Sangha, who encompass All the Enlightened Beings-The Three Roots-guru; Yidam, Dakini and the Dharma Protectors.

  • May this offering of lights pave the way to our realization of Nibbanic Bliss, For World Peace and To Dispel the darkness of Ignorance to All the Yushu Earthquake Victims, Our Departed Relatives and Friends.

Proceeds of the Lights will be used to Build Stupa to ward off the Fear of the 4 elements; Fire, Wind, Water and Earth, and to dispel obstacles or karmic debts of the Ancestors for Donors, the departed and the Yushu Earthquake Victims.

The Offering of 10,800 Lights of Wisdom that dispels Ignorance or Mame Monlam Aspiration Puja will be led by His Emminence Tulku Ashak Rinpoche together with some monks/nuns and lay disciples from some countries and provinces.

Date of Offering: Full Moon Day 24th August to 26th August, 2010

PROGRESS OF THE MEDITATION CENTRE PROJECT IN YUSHU, QINGHAI 2009

Continued from TULKU ASHAK THUTOB RINPOCHE (PART I)....

20/10/2010: We are pleased to inform you that this project is successfully completed! Sadhu

03/09/2010: The 3 monks working wholeheartedly for the Buddha Sasana without seeking for any rewards and merits. From left: Venerable AhShii, Venerable Chering Wangdrak and Venerable KengSang Chungpurr. With great respect we wish to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kind contribution for the benefit of the many! Sadhu!

02/09/2010: We had a soft opening ceremony during our recent visit to the site and we were very happy to see that the Main Shrine Hall is completed together with the Kitchen (opposite the Shrine Hall and Rooms) that comes with a dining Hall. Presently only 10 Sangha rooms are ready and half of the monks are staying at the Centre. If you take a closer look at the picture, the balance of 10 rooms are still under construction(On the left) and due to lack of funds 20 rooms will be ready by 1st week of November, 2010. Rejoice!

17/5/2010: Construction in progress.

12/5/2010: Rejoice! We are very happy to announce that the Shrine Hall for the Meditation Centre is completed! Due to the recent Yushu Earthquake, Internet network connection is not restored yet, therefore, we are unable to upload any photos for everyone to see. However, please continue to visit this blog for further updates! Sadhu!

9/5/2010: Since the ground breaking ceremony held in March 2010 recently, we are very happy that the Meditation Centre Project is now progressing on its 1st stage of construction.

In order to help spread the Buddha's Sasana/Teaching, it involves the construction of the main building which includes lamas accommodations, guest rooms, meditation hall, classrooms, kitchen, dinning hall and other necessary facilities. These facilities are important to be provided to both lamas and practitioners, so that they can reside at the centre to give and receive the teachings. We need to build 25 lama's rooms costing RM5,000 each. Each room accommodates 2 monks.

To enable the completion and smooth progress of this project, your continual support is vital. Sponsoring the construction of monasteries would confer tremendous blessings and accumulate immeasurable merits. Your donations or offering would serve the source of inexhaustible, peace, happiness and liberation of all sentient beings whether seen or unseen. The good seed we plant now is also for future generations! Nobody knows where one may take rebirth to!

BENEFITS OF SPONSORING BUDDHA STATUES
The Buddha said: "In future when sentient beings make offering of Buddha Statues, the amount of merits is equivalent to making offering to me. Offerings and make prostrations to Buddha Statues is the same as being done to Buddha. They become immediate cause of enlightenment, and would achieve liberation from sufferings and cause of happiness, and good rebirth in many lifetimes.

One gain the merits as long as the Buddha Statue lasts and would also gain merits whenever others pray to it. Therefore, those who contribute to the virtue of building the Precious Buddha Statues would receive immeasurable merits and bonding with the Buddha!

For sponsorship of the Buddha Statue which costs RM80,000.00 which will be placed AND seated in the Main Shrine Hall of the Meditation Centre.

Benefits of Building Meditation Centre/Monasteries
Building Monasteries would create not only individual karma but also collective karma. By virtue of serving others, immeasurable merits is accumulated and as much bad karma is purified. Furthermore, seed is planted by merely looking at the Buddha Statues. The gradual imprint of the Buddha's image will achieve liberation and the bliss of enlightenment. Even when in anger state it helps to purifies the mind.

Yearly pujas by 500 monks will be conducted to All Donors and the Departed in this Meditation Centre.

Note:

From Observing the Precepts, Prostrations, Offering and Chanting the Buddha and Avalokiteshava Mantras, all these must be done mindfully in order to maximise the benefits of accumulation of merits, potentially achieving Enlightenment and for better rebirth.

8 Precepts*:
1. To refrain from Killing
2. To refrain from Stealing
3. To refrain from Sexual Misconduct
4. To refrain from Lying
5. To refrain from taking Alcohol and Intoxicating Drugs
6. To refrain from using High and Luxurious Bed/Seat not higher than 12 inch high from floor
7. To refrain from taking Food in inappropriate time, except plain water after 12pm
8. To abstain from indulging in songs/music and shows as well as the use of ornaments, perfume and cosmetics.

Taking and Keeping the 8 precepts is a special practice of Moral Discipline that is performed with Bodhicitta Motivation. The practice starts with vow taking before the Buddha lead by Master.
The essence of the practice is to take 8 precepts and to take them purely for a period of 24 hours. We receive many great benefits from practising moral discipline in this way. It helps us to solve the problems of this life by avoiding the causes of sufffering, and it creates the cause for us to take fortunate rebirth in future lives and thereby protects us from the suffering of lower rebirth.

In particular, because it is performed with Bodhicitta motivation, this practice is very powerful for purifying negative karma. It accumulates a vast collection of merits and creates the cause for us to attain the unsurpassed happiness of Enlightenment.

An explanation of the practice.
When we take the 8 precepts, we explicitly promise to abstain for 24-hours from these 8 actions/precepts.*

Taking and keeping these 8 precepts is a special purification practice.

Sadhu!

Maha Sadhu to Sis Margaret Ong-Tan for the 8 precepts article.
