MONASTRIES IN NANGCHEN

26/08/2010: Venerable Ashak's Monastery in Nangchen Village. Sadhu!

*************************

01/09/2010: We had the privilege to visit Gechak Gonpa Nunnery with 350 nuns/anis who devote their entire lives in meditation in Nangchen. The joy of having this opportunity to meet some of these nuns is beyond words and Venerable Zomkyi with her Aunt (5th pic from top: a practioner herself). Group picture with Venerable Chongpo Lobsang a highly respectable monk in Nangchen.

REBUILDING OF STUPA PROJECT

02/09/2010: The picture of a ruined Stupa, and another picture which Venerable Ashak has the intention to rebuild the Stupa of similar size.
The benefits of building or rebuilding a stupa is enormous, as the Stupa represents the Buddha's mind or Dharmakaya. It is explained by Sakyamuni Buddha in the sutra that it is extremely powerful to build a stupa for those who passed away, as it immediately changes a suffering rebirth into a fortunate rebirth with the opportunity to meet the Dharma.
Any donations is greatly appreciated. Sadhu

GREEN HOUSE PROJECT

continued on the Meditation Centre Project...
29/08/2010: We were happy to get 2 anonymous sponsors for the Green House Project near the centre. Pictures from top, buying the building materials and the young monks had to manually pave the muddy road with pebbles for the lorry to deliver the building materials. This project will be completed within 20 days time. Sadhu!

TULKU ASHAK THUTOB RINPOCHE (PART II)

A Brief History of Tulku Ashak Thutob Rinpoche's Lineage:
The 1st significant event in the history of Tibetan Buddhism occurred in 641, when King Songtsen Gampo (C609-650) unified Tibet and took 2 Buddhist wives (Princess Wencheng from China and Princess Bhrikuti Devi from Nepal). Before long, King Gampo helped spread Buddhism to Tibet.
However, the most important event of Tibetan Buddhist history was the arrival of the great tantric mystic Padmasambhava (top picture) in 774 at the invitation of King Trisong Detsen. It was Padmasambhava or Guru Rinpoche who merged Tantric Buddhism with the local Bon religion to form what we recognised now as Tibetan Buddhism. In summary according to the Tibetan Buddhist Text, after a series of changes as various births in many different intermediate existences, it was His Holiness Terchen Nyidrak Garwang Drodul Lingpa (picture below, 1647-1710) who mastered and practiced contemplation and meditation without hearing, he reappeared as the great Treasure Revealer, the Great Treasure Founder of Vidyadhara, Dharma-King and Nyima Drakpa Tsal. Through the Nyingma (means the ancient one) practice, from the beginning until today, many practitioners have achieved enlightenment of rainbow body.
Nyingma is the oldest school of Tibetan Buddhism and HE Tulku Ashak Thutob Rinpoche is the spiritual master of Terchen Nyima Drakpa Centers in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. He was born in 1971 and came from a family of great spiritual practice and attainments. At the age of 3, he started to talk about his past life to his parents and sangha. He was ordained as a monk at the age of 5. He was recognised as a Tulku (reincarnation master) by HE Phentul Chogyal Drakpa Rinpoche and His Holiness Dzarong Trulshik Shatrul Rinpoche and His Holiness Penor Rinpoche. He received his English Education in Dharamsala. He then studied in Rumtek Monastry in Sikkim to study Buddhism for which he obtained 1st Class Honors. He was also educated in Medicine since the previous Ashak Rinpoche (past life) was renowned for his spiritual Traditional Tibetan healing ability. He also studied and received numerous teachings from many realised masters including HH the 17th Karmapa, HH Penor Rinpoche, Kempos, high lamas and yogi masters. Learning the Kalachakra tradition, twice from Dalai Lama, Rinchen Terdrog from both Taklong Tsetul and Namkha Rinpoche, and the Dzogchen teaching from Donse Thinly. Tulku Ashak Thutob Rinpoche was enthroned by HH Terchen Nyima Drakpa, HE Gyalse Rinpoche and HE Chongpo Lobsang Rinpoche and also an abbot of Driyal Drudul Sang Ngak (Ashak's Monastery), Pal Ratna and Samtem Choling Nunnery with 500 monks and nuns including Nyidrak lineage Sanghas in Eastern Kham Nangchen.

**********************************************************
Anyone of us have at one time or other found the world hard to bear. Stress, Responsibilities, Depression are some of the diseases of modern times that leaves us yearning for a solution. More and more people are turning to meditation as they fail to find the answer to worldly path.

Meditation is the integral to the eight-fold path to enlightenment. One trains one's mind to realise the 4 supreme truths that forms the core of Buddha's teachings: The Truth of Suffering, The Cause of Suffering, The Cessation of Suffering and the Path Leading to the Cessation of Suffering. Meditation is a valuable training that can be applied in your daily life, for it helps with concentration and when practice properly can lead to a state of peace and calmness that's beyond worldly joys. The famous word from the Buddha: EHIPASSIKO (come and see). Words can not be described unless you experience it yourself.

During the Opening Ceremony of the Meditation Centre, offering of 10,800 lights of Wisdom or Mame Monlam in Tibetan will be done mindfully to Aspire for the following:

  • Unlimited Wisdom, Concentration and Samadhi of All the Buddhas

  • To the Triple Gems-The Buddha, Dharma and Sangha, who encompass All the Enlightened Beings-The Three Roots-guru; Yidam, Dakini and the Dharma Protectors.

  • May this offering of lights pave the way to our realization of Nibbanic Bliss, For World Peace and To Dispel the darkness of Ignorance to All the Yushu Earthquake Victims, Our Departed Relatives and Friends.

Proceeds of the Lights will be used to Build Stupa to ward off the Fear of the 4 elements; Fire, Wind, Water and Earth, and to dispel obstacles or karmic debts of the Ancestors for Donors, the departed and the Yushu Earthquake Victims.

The Offering of 10,800 Lights of Wisdom that dispels Ignorance or Mame Monlam Aspiration Puja will be led by His Emminence Tulku Ashak Rinpoche together with some monks/nuns and lay disciples from some countries and provinces.

PROGRESS OF THE MEDITATION CENTRE PROJECT IN YUSHU, QINGHAI 2009

Continued from TULKU ASHAK THUTOB RINPOCHE (PART I)....

20/10/2010: We are pleased to inform you that this project is successfully completed! Sadhu

03/09/2010: The 3 monks working wholeheartedly for the Buddha Sasana without seeking for any rewards and merits. From left: Venerable AhShii, Venerable Chering Wangdrak and Venerable KengSang Chungpurr. With great respect we wish to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kind contribution for the benefit of the many! Sadhu!

02/09/2010: We had a soft opening ceremony during our recent visit to the site and we were very happy to see that the Main Shrine Hall is completed together with the Kitchen (opposite the Shrine Hall and Rooms) that comes with a dining Hall. Presently only 10 Sangha rooms are ready and half of the monks are staying at the Centre. If you take a closer look at the picture, the balance of 10 rooms are still under construction(On the left) and due to lack of funds 20 rooms will be ready by 1st week of November, 2010. Rejoice!

17/5/2010: Construction in progress.

12/5/2010: Rejoice! We are very happy to announce that the Shrine Hall for the Meditation Centre is completed! Due to the recent Yushu Earthquake, Internet network connection is not restored yet, therefore, we are unable to upload any photos for everyone to see. However, please continue to visit this blog for further updates! Sadhu!

9/5/2010: Since the ground breaking ceremony held in March 2010 recently, we are very happy that the Meditation Centre Project is now progressing on its 1st stage of construction.

In order to help spread the Buddha's Sasana/Teaching, it involves the construction of the main building which includes lamas accommodations, guest rooms, meditation hall, classrooms, kitchen, dinning hall and other necessary facilities. These facilities are important to be provided to both lamas and practitioners, so that they can reside at the centre to give and receive the teachings. We need to build 25 lama's rooms costing RM5,000 each. Each room accommodates 2 monks.

To enable the completion and smooth progress of this project, your continual support is vital. Sponsoring the construction of monasteries would confer tremendous blessings and accumulate immeasurable merits. Your donations or offering would serve the source of inexhaustible, peace, happiness and liberation of all sentient beings whether seen or unseen. The good seed we plant now is also for future generations! Nobody knows where one may take rebirth to!

BENEFITS OF SPONSORING BUDDHA STATUES
The Buddha said: "In future when sentient beings make offering of Buddha Statues, the amount of merits is equivalent to making offering to me. Offerings and make prostrations to Buddha Statues is the same as being done to Buddha. They become immediate cause of enlightenment, and would achieve liberation from sufferings and cause of happiness, and good rebirth in many lifetimes.

One gain the merits as long as the Buddha Statue lasts and would also gain merits whenever others pray to it. Therefore, those who contribute to the virtue of building the Precious Buddha Statues would receive immeasurable merits and bonding with the Buddha!

For sponsorship of the Buddha Statue which costs RM80,000.00 which will be placed AND seated in the Main Shrine Hall of the Meditation Centre.

Benefits of Building Meditation Centre/Monasteries
Building Monasteries would create not only individual karma but also collective karma. By virtue of serving others, immeasurable merits is accumulated and as much bad karma is purified. Furthermore, seed is planted by merely looking at the Buddha Statues. The gradual imprint of the Buddha's image will achieve liberation and the bliss of enlightenment. Even when in anger state it helps to purifies the mind.

Yearly pujas by 500 monks will be conducted to All Donors and the Departed in this Meditation Centre.

Note:

From Observing the Precepts, Prostrations, Offering and Chanting the Buddha and Avalokiteshava Mantras, all these must be done mindfully in order to maximise the benefits of accumulation of merits, potentially achieving Enlightenment and for better rebirth.

8 Precepts*:
1. To refrain from Killing
2. To refrain from Stealing
3. To refrain from Sexual Misconduct
4. To refrain from Lying
5. To refrain from taking Alcohol and Intoxicating Drugs
6. To refrain from using High and Luxurious Bed/Seat not higher than 12 inch high from floor
7. To refrain from taking Food in inappropriate time, except plain water after 12pm
8. To abstain from indulging in songs/music and shows as well as the use of ornaments, perfume and cosmetics.

Taking and Keeping the 8 precepts is a special practice of Moral Discipline that is performed with Bodhicitta Motivation. The practice starts with vow taking before the Buddha lead by Master.
The essence of the practice is to take 8 precepts and to take them purely for a period of 24 hours. We receive many great benefits from practising moral discipline in this way. It helps us to solve the problems of this life by avoiding the causes of sufffering, and it creates the cause for us to take fortunate rebirth in future lives and thereby protects us from the suffering of lower rebirth.

In particular, because it is performed with Bodhicitta motivation, this practice is very powerful for purifying negative karma. It accumulates a vast collection of merits and creates the cause for us to attain the unsurpassed happiness of Enlightenment.

An explanation of the practice.
When we take the 8 precepts, we explicitly promise to abstain for 24-hours from these 8 actions/precepts.*

Taking and keeping these 8 precepts is a special purification practice.

Sadhu!

Maha Sadhu to Sis Margaret Ong-Tan for the 8 precepts article.

Nidhi Kanda-The Reserve Fund(Merits)

A person stashes a fund away,
deep underground, at the waterline:
"When a need or duty arises,
this will provide for my needs,
for my release if I'm denounced by the king,
molested by thieves,
in case of debt, famine, or accidents,

With aims like this in the world
a reserve fund is stashed away.
But no matter how well it's stored,
deep underground, at the water line,
it won't all always serve one's need.
The fund gets shifted from its place,
or one's memory gets confused;
or--unseen--
water serpents make off with it,

When one's merit's ended,
it's totally destroyed.
But when a man or woman
has laid aside a well-stored fund
of generosity, virtue,
restraint, & self-control,
with regard to a shrine,
the Sangha,
a fine individual,
guests,mother, father,
or elder sibling:
That's a well-stored fund.
It can't be wrested away.
It follows you along.

When, having left this world,
for wherever you must go,
you take it with you.
This fund is not held in common with others,
& can not be stolen by thieves.
So, prudent, you should make merit,
the fund that will follow you along
This is the fund
That give all that want,
to beings human, divine,
Whatever devas aspire to,
all that is gained by this.
A fine complexion, fine voice,
a body well-built, well-formed,
lordship a following:
all that is gained by this.

Earthly kingship, supremacy,
the bliss of an emperor,
kingship over devas in the heavens:
all that is gained by this.
The attainment of the human state,
the attainment of Unbinding.
all that is gained by this.
Excellent friends,
appropriate application,(1)
mastery of clear knowing & release:(2)
all that is gained by this.
Acumen,(3) emancipations,(4)
the perfection of disciplehood:
all that is gained by this.
Private Awakening,(5)
Buddhahood:
all that is gained by this.

So powerful is this,
the accomplishment of merit.
Thus the wise, the prudent,
praise the fund of merit
already made.

Special Note: With our heart-felt gratitude and appreciation to Venerable Ashak Rinpoche for giving us so many opportunities to accumulate merits and practice the Dharma. With this we wish to dedicate the above article to Venerable. May Venerable Be Well And Happy, and May Venerable's Aspirations come true soon! Sadhu!
From the Khuddakapatha: The above article about investing and accumulating merits at the present moment which is more reliable and longer lasting than worldly investments.
Note:1. Proper practise of the Dharma. 2. Knowledge of previous lives, Knowledge of passing away and arising of beings(rebirths), Knowledge of the ending of mental fermatations: sensual passion, becoming, views and ignorance. Release: release from the cycle of rebirth.3. Acumen with regards to its dharma, to its meaning, to its language & to quick-wittedness. These 4 talents can be found in all but not all Arahants.
Emancipations: The Maha-nidana Suttanta (DN15) describes the great emancipation as follows: Possessed of form, one sees forms. Not percipient to form internally, one sees forms externally, this is the first emancipation. One is intent only on the beautiful. This is the third emancipation. With the complete trancending of perceptions of (physical) form, with the dissapearance of perceptions of resistance, and not heeding perceptions of diversity, (perceiving) infinite space, one enters and remains in the dimensions of the infinitude of space. This is the fourth emancipation. With the complete transcending of the dimension of the infinitude of space, (perceiving) 'infinite conciousness', one enters and remains in the dimension of the infinitude of conciousness. This is the fifth emancipation. with the complete transcending of infinitude of conciousness, (perceiving) there is nothingness, one enters and remain in the dimension of nothingness. This is the Sixth emanciptation. With the complete transcending of nothingness, one enters and remain the dimension of neither perception nor non-perception. This is the Seventh emancipation. With the complete transcending of the dimension of neither perception nor non-perception, one enters and remains in the dimension of cessation of perception and feeling. This is the Eight emancipation. Now if the monk attains these eight emancipations in forward order, in reverse order, and in forward and reverse order, when he attains them emerges from them whenever he wants, however he wants, and as long as he wants, when through the ending of the mental fermentations-free awareness-release and discernment-release, having directly known it and realised it in the here and now, he is known as a monk who is released in both ways. And as for another release in both ways, higher or more sublime than this. There is none.
Private awakening: Awakening as a Private Buddha, one who can gain awakening without relying on the teachings of others. But who can not formulate the Dharma in the way a Full Buddha Can.

YUSHU, QINGHAI EARTHQUAKE

21/08/2010: The condition in Yushu after the earthquake. Retailers are using tents to sell their things and many residents are still staying in tents. According to some locals, it will take another 3 years to develop the town. Currently, water and electricity are not available in most areas.

17/5/2010: Distribution of daily necessities to the Quake Victims by the monks.

24/4/2010: Yushu Earthquake supporters and donors from Tmn Desa

***************************
16/4/2010: Today our great Nyidrak Monastry Druya Doldol Gompa Tsang's Sanghas and The Great Yogi Master Pema Dorje's Monastry Dogtor Gur Sing Rinpoches are doing Prayers for the Yushu Earthquake victims and to those who died too.

Some of the Masters and Monks went to Yushu Town (about 8 hours drive from the Village), HE Chongpo Lobsang Rinpoche, Tulku Wangdrak Rinpoche both from our Great Nyidrak Monastry and some Nuns from Samten Khadro Ling are offering their assistance now.

Both our Master H E Chongpo Lobsang Rinpoche's and Tulku Wangdrak Rinpoche's families are injured and their houses also collapsed by the quake. The most sadden news is many of Venerable Ashak's friends and relatives were dead and if not they are badly injured.

We continue to pray for their safety and May They Be Free from Suffering. Sadhu!

14/4/2010: We regret to inform you that this morning's earthquake in Yushu town had destroyed 85% of the area. Many of Venerable Ashak's friends passed away, and we have yet to receive any news from Venerable Brother and his family and also the Village Head Chongpo Lobsang and his family due to the severed network connection in the area.

At the time of writing, Venerable village is not affected by the earthquake, and instructions were given to the Sangha members to go to Nangchen immediately to assist and offer prayers to the victims.

We urgently appeal for your kind donations* for the families of the injured and the dead.

You may contact Sis Bee Yong @ 012-208 5856.

We pray for those affected by the Earthquake be free from suffering and pain.

* Providing medication, food, blankets and drinking water is our priority.
